My Lesson Plan for English: Type of Sentences i.e. sentence functions

    I. Objectives

At the end of the 40-minute period the students are expected to:
A.identify four functions of the sentence with the corresponding punctuation
B.gives an appropriate response using any of the four functions of the sentence
C.converse well with others by recognizing effective response with courtesy

    II. Subject Matter
    A.Topic: Sentence Functions
    B.Materials:reading handouts, visual aids
C.Reference/s: choose something from NCERT or any standard book you follow
    D. Valuing:

    III. Procedure

    A. Motivation The teacher will ask the students about a conversation that is alive and appropriate response is being delivered. 1.How would you feel if the one you are speaking (could be a friend, a priest, or a speaker in a convention/ seminar) with seems interested to the topic you were discussing but lacks appropriate response? 2.Would you find a conversation interesting if the speaker lacks feelings or emotions in delivering a speech or topic?

    B. Presentation The teacher will give mini dialogue handouts to the class and ask them to read it in a monotonous way.

    C. Lesson Proper The teacher will ask students about the four functions of the Sentence, its meaning and the corresponding punctuation being use.

    Sentence Functions
    1. Declarative This declares a fact or an opinion and ends with a period.
E.g. Cab picked me early at home.
    The learning was very tough.

    2. Interrogative This is used for asking a question and ends with a question mark.
    E.g.Will it happen?
Did Luv and Kush make it?

    3. Imperative Used for making demand or a request, this sentence usually ends with a period. However, if the sentence conveys a strong emotion or passion an exclamation is used. (This sentence is also exclamatory.) An imperative also begins with a verb and has a subject in the second person point of view that is hidden.

E.g. (You) Try to reach to office early.
(You) Please, bring this to the boss.
(You) Get your finger off the food!

    4. Exclamatory This suggests a strong emotion or passion and can be any of the kinds of sentences that were mentioned. An exclamation point is used in an exclamatory sentence.

E.g. It was yesterday when you came! (declarative)
    You’re coming now! (interrogative)
    Hold that! (imperative)

    D. Generalization E. Enrichment Activities The class will form two groups and will have an impromptu dialogue while the teacher chooses a word to act out.

    F. Evaluation

The teacher will ask the students if giving appropriate response in a conversation is helpful and if students would consider applying this response in their daily activity? Think if the speaker would be easily understood if he is using the effective way of delivering speech?

    IV. Assignment

1.Forming a group of 4 to 5, write some dialogues that has an appropriate response in conversation.
2.Have a role play in the class.
3.Study Run-ons and fragments in the sentence error.
